CITRIC ACID PRODUCTION AND OPTIMIZATION OF ITS PRODUCTION CONDITIONS FROM ASPERGILLUS SPP. USING SUGARCANE WASTE
Keywords:
Aspergillus Sp, Submerged Fermentation, Citric AcidAbstract
In the present study, molasses was used to produce citric acid using Aspergillus spp. Culture was prepared and tests (lactophenol Blue mounting, indole production test, starch hydrolysis test, MR/VP test, citrate utilization test, urease test and nitrate test) were performed for confirmation of the species. The percentage of citric acid was calculated to be 0.91 (91%). The optimization was done for citric acid production using three different carbon sources and three nitrogen sources. The analysis helped to determine that between three carbon sources (Glucose, sucrose and starch) sucrose shows highest absorbance value and for three nitrogen sources (urea, ammonium nitrate and ammonium chloride) shows highest value for ammonium chloride. Thus, under similar conditions used in the study, sucrose and ammonium chloride would act as better carbon and nitrogen source, respectively for citric acid production from sugarcane waste.
