Abstract

This paper illustrates the effectiveness of the problem-solving method developed from Deming's idea of identifying the common cause of a problem. Riding on this case study in 2006 when France lost out to Italy, history repeats itself at the World Cup 2022. The purpose of this paper is to extend and expand Dr. Deming’s teaching for business management in general and those countries who want to win the World Cup 2026 via Sports Science in particular. Although this paper proposes a way to win the World Cup on the assumption that it comes to a penalty shoot-out, similar reasoning technique can be applied to the team strategy based on the analysis of the best practice football team and that of the opponents. Once the 2 golden rules of the game is identified, the coach has to train all the team frontline member to repeatedly practice, say 10 times a day till they became mechanistic during shooting. This also has the benefit that during the course of normal shooting (not necessary penalty-shoot), the players will automatically adjust their shooting position according to the Rule-1 of this paper which gives a better chance to get the ball in. Moreover, in order to ensure repeatability and success, it is further suggested that the DSPK for football matches can be programmed into an Artificial Intelligence (AI) graphical platform with life-image captured for analysis and continuous improvement (Kaizen).
